Bummer for Ken, he scratched his cornea yesterday playing outside with Jack.

It was apparent within no time that it wasn't just a little poke in the ol' eye that would go away after a few, long blinks. We called our optometrist and she got him in right away and had all the right tools and gadgets to get an accurate look at what had happened. Ken had been chasing Jack around the bushes to the side of the house laughing and having a grand ol time when he turned a corner a tad too sharp and grazed passed some branches on the end bush, thus creating a zig-zag fairly deep scratch on the cornea of his eyeball. The doc put a contact band aid on, along with giving him a number of eye drops (some for lubricant, some for pain relief, some as an anti-bacterial) and scheduled him to come back today to check on it. (We thought that was so generous of her, given she has weekends off & took time out of her Saturday to check on him!) Not to mention, when Ken went in today, she also had brought her husband (an eye surgeon) who also took a look. He said it'll take a little while to heal, and they did another contact-type band aid that they'll take off and re-check again on Wednesday. Ken said this wound is so uncomfortable; it's like having a migraine in his eyeball, but without the headache, and the scratched part feels like there's constantly debris caught in there - even though it's all clear. His eye is mega light sensitive and when he sleeps, it gets crusted shut with all the eye junk. Gross, I know, but man --- what a bummer! We are so thankful for God's hand over everything though; it could be much worse. In fact, the Dr. was telling him of a gal she had helped who had accidentally burned her cornea with a curling iron! Um, yeah, ouch doesn't quite capture that one. Ken is tough & said he's not good for much right now besides sitting around and talking. New score: Happy wife: 1, hurting hubby: 1. :) Ok, so we both can benefit from that! haha. Ken can't work tonight so we're in the process of trying to get that shift covered so he can give that eye some R&R. Hopefully he'll start to feel better & heal up within a few days?? Oh my goodness!! I feel so bad for Ken - really can't think of much worse than a "migrane of the eye" like he described. We'll be praying for him!!

Wow, that is NO FUN at all---I'm sorry Ken!!!! We are so glad to hear it will be able to heal in time---God is so good!!! Last fall KEith's brother-in-law got a major eye injury from a snapping bungy cord, it was very scary for us, and made us realize how vital that part of our body is and to not take it for granted. THankfully he has no long lasting effects. I'm wondering if they had the same eye doctor because Alex had a very generous doctor who saw him on the weekends too! It just goes to show there are still good people in the world. Prayers are being sent up for your full recovery Ken! Let us know if you need help with anything while you heal.
