A gift

I don't know what it is about Ken (actually I do) :)... but it seems like no matter where we are, kids of all ages flock to him! He doesn't even need to be talking with them or looking in their direction, and they wind up just coming right on up and striking conversations, asking him for help, saying hi, ... and leaving me just in awe from the sidelines as I smile and observe this wonderful scene unfold between grown man & child "stranger." ;) It really is wonderful. A couple of "for-instances" come to mind to share. We went to a handful of weddings this summer and loved being there - something special about being married now and getting to watch friends take vows and begin their lives together, with the flood of memories washing over us all over again as we watch from our seats. Anyhow, at the most recent wedding we were at, one of the flower girls came up to Ken during the buffet line and told him she'd like more watermelon. (We weren't even close to the buffet tables!) haha. He just smiled at her and squatted down at her level, and assured her we'd make sure to get her some watermelon. She stood with Ken until we got to the table where the fruit was, and he got her all set up with a plate of watermelon. ;) For the rest of the night, she would smile at Ken whenever we'd see her. Then today was an otherwise-normal day for us as a family at the park nearby, and this flock of young little girls (maybe ranging in ages from 3-6?) all come running over to Ken and strike up a conversation. They share what they're going to dress up as for Halloween, ask about Jack's age and what he's going to be for Halloween, ask Ken his name, ect. No matter where we went on the playground, they were right behind Ken. What gives?!! :) It's just too cute, really. Those are just two quick stories that come to mind, but honestly, this happens to him ALL THE TIME almost anywhere we go. He can make kids laugh so heartily and easily. (And for sure he is this way with our own kids -- I am overly blessed he is their Daddy and my husband!!) I love that he has that kind of approachability and personality... even the innocence of childhood can spot a loving, funny, kind, and compassionate adult. He really has a gift...
